My Home Tour ~ Living Room and Kitchen

The Living Room and Kitchen

These two rooms are where we spend all our time as a family.  Comfy couches, distressed finishes on furniture (aka for perfect when you have 3 boys and 3 dogs) and an open layout were key for our lifestyle.   It is not a huge space but it is extremely functional.  I love having the kitchen open to the living room, it is perfect for our family and for entertaining.

When we moved in it was in need of a facelift.  It's amazing what paint can do. :)

Before:

Since moving in we have painted the living room and kitchen (twice), rebuilt the mantle and bricked the fireplace, built a barn pantry door, refinished all our kitchen cabinets in an antiqued ivory, added beadboard to the cabinet sides and island, extended the fridge surround and added corbels, a new fan, light fixtures and trim on the column.

After:

It's so crazy to see how much it has changed in the couple years we have lived here.   It has been a lot of fun and a ton of work, but it is now the heart of our home.

What is your favorite room and why?

  1. Wow! What an unbelievable job you did here. I love how you brought life to the bare rooms. My favorite room would be the kitchen. It looks really clean and classy. I don't cook a lot but with a kitchen like that, I would be really inspired to whip up some meals!

    1. Thank you!! I agree, I think the kitchen is my fave too! The layout was so functional, but it just needed a little facelift! With a husband and 3 sons, it definitely has been nice for cooking some big meals. The is my first house with an island, and I can't imagine not having one now. It is where I do all my food prep (especially since I can watch tv in the livingroom while I do it..hee hee!!) Thanks again for your sweet comment!

  2. I'd love to know where you purchased the pantry doors. We've been looking for just that.
